Unemployment benefit: Maximum amount increases to 1.306 euros in 2025.

Maximum unemployment benefit will increase by 33 euros in 2025.

The maximum unemployment benefit in Portugal will increase to 1,306 euros starting in January 2025, driven by the update of the Index of Social Support (IAS), which will be set at 522.50 euros.

According to what is read in the Notícias ao Minuto, this increase in the IAS is due to the growth of the economy in the last two years, combined with November's inflation, data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). In 2025, the IAS will increase by 13.24 euros, rising from the current 509.26 euros to 522.50 euros, according to calculations by the Lusa agency.

With this increase, the maximum value of unemployment benefit, calculated at 2.5 times the IAS, will rise from 1,273 euros to 1,306 euros. The minimum value will also align with the new benchmark, increasing to 522.50 euros.

The calculation of the allowance varies depending on the net reference remuneration and specific conditions.

• For workers whose net reference pay is less than the IAS.

• For those who receive the national minimum wage;

• For couples where both partners are unemployed and have dependents to support.

Note that the IAS is still used as a reference for various social benefits, such as family allowance tiers, eligibility criteria for the Social Insertion Income (RSI), determination of the maximum asset value for the allocation of social benefits and assignment of scholarships, among others.

This increase in the Social Support Index and consequently in unemployment benefits reflects the economic growth and gradual recovery of inflation after years marked by instability caused by global factors.
