The proposal for the new State Budget for 2025 (OE2025) in Portugal presents several measures with a direct impact on the finances of the Portuguese.
The objective of the measures presented is to improve family income, as well as support critical sectors, in a macroeconomic scenario still of moderate growth.
These are the 10 proposals that can have a direct impact on your finances.
- IRS rates remain, but with updated brackets: Values that define each income bracket increase by 4.62%, above expected inflation;
- Increase of the minimum wage to 870 euros in 2025, 50 euros higher than the current value.
- Public employees with a raise of 52 euros in 2025, or a minimum of 2%;
- Extended youth IRS up to 10 years, with income tax discount valid until age 35;
- Complementary Solidarity Allowance for the Elderly will be reinforced by 30 euros next year, with the expectation that it will reach 820 euros by the end of the legislature
- Public transportation pass will be free up to 23 years old, and social pass extended to the entire mainland territory.
- Taxes related to frozen cars: ISV and IUC will not increase.
- Less taxes on electricity, with the consumption volume taxed at 6% (with reduced VAT, it doubles).
- Continuation of free daycare, expanded to more sectors, which will relieve expenses for many families with young children.
- 4.1% increase in family allowance and an 8% rise in parental benefits, reflecting the adjustment to the increase in the cost of living.
