Exchange an item without a receipt? Find out the solution.
Yes - it is possible to exchange an item without the receipt through the following method.
Notice how to exchange an item without having the receipt.
According to DECO PROteste mentioned in Notícias ao Minuto, it is possible to exchange a product even if you no longer have the original purchase receipt.
Christmas is just around the corner and with it comes shopping, exchanges, and returns. It is important to know your consumer rights.
The entity explains that "it is possible to try to make the exchange and, for that, you can use the ATM receipt or provide the tax number."
The ATM receipt "can serve as proof, as it indicates the name, address, and taxpayer identification number of the commercial establishment, the day and time of the purchase, the automatic payment terminal, and the transaction number". It also includes "the merchant number, the consumer's name, the number of their ATM card and issuing entity, and the amount".
Thus, "it is possible that the ATM receipt serves as a means of proof, although it does not guarantee which product was purchased".
In the case of a defective item, you must communicate the situation to the seller through a letter, email, or other provable means. If you do not have the receipt, you can present alternatives such as the credit card proof or the taxpayer number indication that you provided when making the purchase.
"Many stores have electronic files that allow to know if the customer purchased the product in question and when it was done. There are also stores that have a customer card whose record can be accessed through the tax number or mobile phone number, for example," the news also reads.
But paying in cash and without providing any personal data “it will be very difficult to prove the time and place of purchase, and consequently, demand the exchange or return of money”.
The advice from DECO PROteste is for consumers to keep all packaging while checking if the product is in good condition and to their liking, as well as all documents proving the purchase of the product.
