If you have been on sick leave and did not receive the Christmas bonus, you should wait until January.
You can request the compensatory benefit starting in January.
Low income and no Christmas subsidy? You can apply in January.
If you have been on sick leave and did not receive the Christmas and/or holiday subsidy, the best option is to wait until January, when you can register the request for compensation for these subsidies through Social Security Direct.
In January, you can request the compensatory benefit related to vacation pay, Christmas pay, or both simultaneously through the Segurança Social Direta. This service allows not only the registration and tracking of the request but also ensures a faster analysis and decision," clarifies the Social Security Institute, as seen in the Notícias ao Minuto website. To submit the request, you must access Segurança Social Direta, click on the menu - Employment, and select the option - Compensatory benefits for holiday and Christmas subsidies. The request will then be analyzed by the Social Security services. If you need a certificate, just go to - Actions and select - Get Certificate.
The Social Security Institute also informed that workers have a period of six months to request these compensatory benefits, starting from:
- From January 1st of the year following the year in which holiday and Christmas bonuses should have been paid by the employer.
- Date of termination of the employment contract, if it has ended.
You can consult more information in the practical guide on compensatory payments for vacation subsidies, Christmas or other similar ones, available at this link.
